Kaiser - Take Care of Your Asthma

Does asthma make your life miserable? If so, you’re not alone. About 20 million people in the United States suffer from asthma.

If you have asthma, you can take care of yourself by staying away from anything that triggers your attacks and by taking medications as directed by your doctor.

Keep your home free of allergens and irritants, and don’t be shy about asking people not to smoke anywhere around you.
Reduce your risk of catching colds by getting a flu shot every year and by washing your hands often.

Regular, moderate exercise is good for you because it can help you build up the strength of your lungs and airways.
It’s a good idea to create an asthma action plan with your doctor. Being prepared for asthma flare-ups can help make them shorter, less severe and easier to get through.
