ADOPT A PET!
Read on to see if this months Featured Pet could become part of YOUR Family!
Sonny is a 2 year old, cream & light tan, 11 pound chihuahua mix. His name describes his personality! he is very sweet, happy, docile yet timid little guy. He is full of life and loves affection. He responds to kindness. Sonny can play with his mouth roughly so a home with no small children is necessary. He was hit by a car and endured the pain of a fractured jaw. After surgery, he is recovering nicely - even eating tiny bites of kibble. He gets a long with other dogs. This dog cannot be adopted out of state.. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please call Penny Adams at 619-466-0426. Sonny is up-to-date with routine shots and spayed/neutered.
More information on Dr. Bischel:
Dr. Bischel, the owner of Eastlake Village Veterinary Clinic was born and raised in San Diego. She was born with a passion and love for animals and volunteered her time as a kennel attendant for a local veterinary hospital thru her high school years. She graduated in 1980 from the University of Mexico in Mexico City with a degree in Veterinary Medicine as well as Animal Husbandry. Moving back to California she attended U.C. Davis and then worked for the Department of Animal Control in Bonita.
Dr. Bischel has always been actively involved in local spay/neuter campaigns since she experienced first hand when working for Animal Control, the serious problem of pet over-population. She currently works with numerous rescues and shelter groups assisting with low-cost sterilization and other necessary treatments. She has held fundraisers and community education seminars in an effort to raise awareness of responsible pet ownership. In 1995 she decided to expand her efforts to curb stray animal over-population worldwide and co-founded a non-profit corporation, Veterinarians For World Animal Control, Inc (V.W.A.H.). She currently is President of the non-profit corporation.
Currently, Dr. Bischel leads the team at Eastlake Village Veterinary Clinic. Providing care for the animals in her community and as well as for those around the world is her passion and she hopes to continue to do so for many years to come!
Important Information Dr. B wants you to know:
- Dr. Bischel and her staff strongly believe in the importance of spaying and neutering your pets. Eastlake Village Veterinary Clinic offers free spaying/neutering for unowned, feral cats.
- Mosquito season is starting early this year, and your pet can get heartworm from mosquitos. Countywide, cases of heartworm have significantly increased. Make sure you get your pet tested for heartworm and get them started on the once a month preventative medication.
- Healthy Mouth= Healthy Pet: Make sure you get your pet’s teeth cleaned every year. There is a new dental vaccine that aids in the prevention of periodontitis (the most common bacterial infection in dogs), which can lead to tooth and jaw bone loss.
- Pet Allergies: Your pet can get allergies! Here are some easily recognizable signs: Teary eyes; Paw licking and chewing; Face rubbing; Inflamed or pink skin. If your pet is exhibiting any of these signs, please call the Eastlake Village Veterinary Clinic for treatment.
- Grooming: It is very important that you get your pet groomed regularly. It will keep you pet’s skin and coat healthy and free of external parasites (flea and ticks) and fox tails (thorns). Studies show that when pets look and feel good, they are better treated by their owners.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: I just got a new puppy, what do I need to do?
A: It is very important that you bring your puppy in immediately for de-worming and vaccines, which are very important for the long term health of your new family member.
Q: My pet is getting old, and slowing down. Do I need to put him to sleep?
A: Not necessarily. There are a lot of ways we can put the spring back in their step, just bring them in for a “senior check up” and we can help.
List of Specialties:
- Preventative Medicine
- Preventing disease or catching it in its early stages is far better than treating it once it has had time to progress to a more severe stage. Preventive health care on a regular basis will help you do just that, and save you and your pet from needless suffering and a larger financial burden.
- Surgery
- It is likely that your pet will need surgery at least once in his or her lifetime, most commonly to be spayed or neutered. Eastlake Village Veterinary Clinic ensures that their clients understand the procedure their pet is having and encourages questions they may have prior to bringing their pet in.
- Clinical
- Just as annual physical exams are recommended for humans they are recommended for our pets as well. If your dog or cat is older or has medical problems, he may even need more frequent examinations. A clinical exam yearly will ensure your pet stays healthy.
- Diagnostics
- In order to complete the assessment of the health of your pet, diagnostic testing is needed. Many times pets can be harboring infectious or contagious disease and not yet be showing clinical signs. A pet can also have early organ or metabolic disease that would go undetected. For this reason Eastlake Village Veterinary Clinic encourages diagnostic testing to be performed. Diagnostics play a very important role in determining the severity of a problem, the prognosis of a certain condition and also aid Dr. Bischel in providing adequate treatment.
- Procedures
- Eastlake Village Veterinary Clinic offers a variety of clinical and surgical procedures. Most of which are out-patient. Their goal when keeping your pet for any type of procedure is to ensure the he will be stress-free and comfortable.
